According to research presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society “Taking long, hot showers is a health risk” Due to the ability of chlorine to evaporate in warm water, showers can lead to an increase of exposure to the toxic chemicals that may be found in our water supplies.
Additionally, these airborne chemicals can spread through the house and be inhaled by others. It is possible that you and your loved ones receive more chlorine by breathing the air around showers then they would by drinking the water. Shower filtration is one of the best and easiest ways to reduce our harmful exposure to chlorine and other tap water contaminants. More chlorine enters our body through skin absorption and inhalation of steam while showering than from drinking water!
A recent report in the American Journal of Public Health linked chlorine to significant increases in certain types of cancer, asthma and skin irritations… and stated that “up to two thirds of the harmful exposure was due to skin absorption and inhalation of chlorine in shower water”.
The U.S. EPA re0enlly stated: “Due to chlorine and showering, virtually every home in America has a detectable level of chloroform gas in the air.” When chlorine vaporizes in steam, and combines with other organic compounds in the air, it converts to chloroform.
Chloroform is a strong respiratory irritant and causes fatigue.
Most people don’t realize that the amount of chlorine found in their tap water is at or above the level recommended for swimming pools! A warm shower opens up the pores of the skin and allows a high rate of absorption of chlorine and other chemicals. Due to the fact that these chemicals vaporize at a much lower temperature and at a much faster rate than water, the steam we inhale while showering can expose us with up to 100 times the concentration of chlorine and other synthetic chemicals as drinking tap water. Inhalation of chlorine and chemical vapors is a suspected cause of asthma and bronchitis. When chemicals are inhaled into our lungs they enter directly into our bloodstream and can have magnified effects versus ingested chemicals that are partially filtered by digestion. Removing chlorine and other volatile chemicals with the AquaShower Filter makes sense!

THE EXPERTS SAY ABOUT CHLORINE IN OUR BATHING WATER…
“Chlorine is used almost universally in the treatment of public drinking water because of its toxic effect on harmful bacteria and other waterborne disease-causing organisms. But there is a growing body scientific evidence that shows that chlorine in drinking water may actually pose greater long term dangers than those for which it was used to eliminate. These effects of chlorine may result from either ingestion or absorption through the skin.
Scientific studies have linked chlorine and chlorination by-products to cancer of the bladder liver, stomach, rectum, and colon, as well as heart disease, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), anemia, high blood pressure’ and allergic reactions. There is also evidence that shows that chlorine can destroy protein in our body and cause adverse effects on skin and hair.”
Bottom Line, August 1987 Dr. John Andelman, Ph.D.
“Volatile organics can evaporate from water in a shower or bath. Conservative calculations indicate that inhalation exposures can be as significant as exposure from drinking the water, that is, one can be exposed to just as much by inhalation during a shower as by drinking 2 liters of water a day…People who shower frequently could be exposed through ingestion, inhalation and/or dermal absorption.”

“The National Academy of Sciences estimates that 200 to 1000 people die in the United States each year from cancers caused by ingesting the contaminants in water. The major health threat posed by these pollutants is far more likely to be from their inhalation as air pollutants. The reason that emissions are high is that because water droplets dispersed by the shower head have a larger surface-to-value ratio than water streaming into the bath.”
